Factory Lead – Hands-On Role

Sunset Sleepers is a leading manufacturer of high-quality concrete sleepers, committed to innovation, safety, and excellence. As we expand our operations and raise the bar in the industry, we’re on the lookout for a practical, hands-on Factory Lead to join our team at our Officer facility.

Role Overview
This isn’t a clipboard-and-desk kind of job. As Factory Lead, you’ll roll up your sleeves and lead from the front, overseeing day-to-day operations, jumping in to help where needed, and ensuring your team delivers safely, efficiently, and with pride. You’ll also be responsible for supporting basic preventive maintenance and keeping our production lines running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, manage, and coordinate all aspects of daily production across pour and demold lines.

Get hands-on—assist in troubleshooting, quality checks, and workflow support as needed.

Plan and allocate resources to meet production schedules and customer orders.

Monitor safety, quality, and production KPIs, and take action to drive continuous improvement.

Perform and coordinate routine preventive maintenance tasks with the team.

Coach, support, and develop operators through effective onboarding, training, and supervision.

Champion a strong safety culture and positive team environment.

Collaborate with maintenance, logistics, and quality teams to address issues and optimise operations.

Maintain raw material and finished goods inventory in coordination with procurement and sales.

About You

Experience in factory operations, team leadership, or precast/construction manufacturing.

A natural leader who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty.

Strong understanding of WHS, production planning, and quality assurance.

Proactive and solutions-focused with excellent communication skills.

Comfortable with basic preventive maintenance and keeping machinery running day to day.

Strong computer skills – able to work confidently with scheduling, reporting, and communication tools.

Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement is a plus.

Monday to Friday hours – Factory operates from 7-4, at this stage we envision this role to be from 9am to 5pm, but this is something that can be discussed.
