The Opportunity
Are you highly organised with a knack for coordinating equipment and materials behind the scenes? Do you enjoy making operations run smoothly and supporting critical research – without handling animals or doing hands-on technical repairs?
Join the Monash Animal Research Platform (MARP) as a Lead Material Support Officer and help maintain the essential equipment and material flow that supports world-class biomedical research.
One of your key responsibilities will be to ensure the smooth running of the service and washroom areas within our animal research facilities – focusing on the coordination, basic upkeep, and supply of sterilised materials and equipment. While this role doesn’t involve working directly with animals, it does require handling used animal cages and bedding, including manual tasks such as scraping, washing, and preparing items for sterilisation. It’s hands-on, physical work in a highly controlled environment.
You’ll work closely with facility managers and technicians to:
Oversee equipment operations (e.g., cage washers, autoclaves) and coordinate routine maintenance
Maintain supply chains for sterilised caging, water bottles, and consumables
Liaise with contractors for technical equipment servicing when needed
Support daily logistics including goods receipting and storage
Train and guide new team members in procedures and operations
Ensure compliance with operating protocols and contribute to continuous improvement
If you’re someone who thrives in a structured environment, loves problem-solving and enjoys ensuring others have what they need to do their jobs well. You’ll bring:
Experience with operational coordination in a facility setting
Familiarity with sterilisation or washroom equipment
Strong organisational and communication skills
A proactive, team-oriented approach
Come and join us at the Monash Animal Research Platform, we have a competitive salary and benefits and we look forward to you joining our inclusive, collaborative team. If you believe you fit this profile, we look forward to receiving your application.
