Who are we?
Community Work and Partnerships is one of four service delivery streams within Community Correctional Services (CCS) of the Department of Justice and Community Safety. We are responsible for the development of mutually beneficial partnerships with government agencies and non-government organisations so that participants can undertake unpaid work as part of their community-based sentence imposed by the Courts of Victoria. Community work serves as a valuable way for participants to pay back the community while also reconnecting and reintegrating into the community. We ensure participants make genuine efforts to undergo rehabilitation, and we keep low risk individuals out of prison and help them contribute to the community.
What does a Leading Field Officer do?
The Leading Field Officer carries out the duties and functions of a field officer including the supervision of individuals completing community work tasks. The Leading Field Officer is required to coach new Field Officers and induct them to the role. Co-supervision of field officers in conjunction with a supervisor may be required.

- producing monthly stock reports and other written reports relevant to the work undertaken.
We are recruiting for two positions - one primarily based in Derrimut (West) and one primarily based in Coolaroo (North). If at Coolaroo, this will only be a temporary, whilst a new permanent location is arranged for the Community Work team in the North Metro region. Regardless of primary location, travel across the North West Metro Region is required. These positions operate Monday to Friday.
To be a successful Leading Field Officer, you will:
- possess exceptional leadership, conflict management, problem solving and interpersonal skills with a focus on service excellence and developing others. You will also be able to demonstrate empathy and cultural awareness.
- be able to effectively communicate with various external stakeholders including community work partners, property owners and the general public while supervising community work.
- have relevant community work or experience with a range of equipment used on community work sites.
- Have the ability to quickly build rapport in order to understand the motivations of others, identify issues and suggest courses of action appropriate to their needs.
