The company is seeking a specialist quantity surveyor / estimator with specific skills in the Front-End Loading stage of projects within the mining and engineering industry.
About the role / Duties:
As the candidate you will be responsible for the following:
Preparation of comprehensive Estimate Plans tailored to project phase and estimate class (AACEI, RICS, AusIMM), including:
o Definition of estimate scope, classification level, and accuracy assessments.
o Setup and alignment of WBS/CBS structures.
o Planning of estimate execution schedule, milestones, and review cycles.
o Establishment of contingency methodology (deterministic and probabilistic / QRA-based).
o RACI development and implementation.
Compilation and consolidation of full CAPEX/OPEX estimates across disciplines and stakeholders.
Use of structured templates and flat-file systems to standardise and integrate estimate components (escalation, forex, WBS / CBS, Owners Team costs, cashflow etc.).
Compilation of an auditable Basis of Estimate (BoE) for governance / assurance.
Consolidation of consultant/OEM inputs for integrated capital and operating cost estimates.
Led and participated in third-party reviews of contractor and consultant estimates for Owner teams and investors.
Validated estimate accuracy classifications and assessed alignment with AACEI, RICS, and AUSIMM standards.
Application of a proprietary Estimate Accuracy Assessment Model to evaluate estimate integrity, methodology, and maturity alignment.
Validation and reviews of:
o Scope completeness and consistency across interfaces.
o Realism of unit rates and productivity norms.
o Application of appropriate benchmarks and escalation.
o Integration of risk, contingency, and classification logic.
o Conducted reviews of quantity, rate, and productivity assumptions across multi-disciplinary inputs.
o Reviewed and challenged escalation models, cash flow curves, and contingency applications using probabilistic risk methods.
Advised on corrections, re-baselining strategies, and documentation requirements to achieve investment-grade outputs.
Develop and draft enquiry and procurement documentation in coordination with the owner’s team and commercial stakeholders.
Advisory on contracting strategies tailored to project delivery models and risk profiles, including drafting of project-specific Particular Conditions.
Management of the end-to-end tender process: scope definition, BOQ compilation, pricing preliminaries, tender clarifications, and commercial adjudications.
Structuring, negotiating, and finalising contract documents in alignment with NEC, FIDIC, or bespoke conditions.
Being able to work in a client facing role as this is a high-pressure environment.
Travel local and international possibilities.
Skills and experience:
Proven experience as a FEL specialist with the required qualifications.
10+ years’ experience (post-grad).
Successful track record (with references).
Proficient in the following.
MS Excel.
MS Word.
WinQS and Dimension X software.
Qualifications:
BSc. in Quantity Surveying and MRICS Membership
