Ampersand’s client, a top-tier firm and one of the most highly sought-after brands in the market, is seeking a commercially minded Senior Business Development Adviser or Manager to join their high-performing Competition & Tax team. This role will be pivotal in driving strategy, supporting revenue growth, and deepening client relationships. This is a visible, collaborative position working closely with partners, lawyers, and the broader Marketing team to shape go-to-market approaches and deliver outstanding client experiences.
About the role
You will be part of a specialist BD team servicing Competition, Consumer & Regulatory, and Tax practices, within a broader portfolio that also supports Intellectual Property and Banking & Finance partners. You’ll collaborate closely with senior BD leadership and partners to lead the practice’s business development function and client engagement activities.
What you’ll be doing
- Partnering with lawyers and BD leadership to implement business plans and pursue growth opportunities
- Taking the lead on must-win pitches and pursuits
- Collaborating on client feedback initiatives to inform strategy and enhance service delivery
- Leading legal directory and award submissions (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500) and preparing partners for interviews
- Working with marketing colleagues on integrated campaigns, media, events, and profile-raising activities
- Supporting international BD trips with relevant briefings and client materials
- Sharing client, market, and competitor insights to inform decision-making
- Helping embed a client-centric culture by sharing best practices and lessons learned
About the team
You will join a tight-knit, nationally integrated Marketing & Business Development function who are based in offices across Australia. The BD function includes specialists aligned to practices, sectors, clients, and growth areas, along with dedicated teams for major pursuits, pricing, tenders, reporting, and paralegal support.
This is a team known for delivering results, fostering collaboration, and maintaining a positive, dynamic working environment, combining deep experience with fresh perspectives.

You’ll bring business development and marketing experience from a law firm or professional services environment, confidence in engaging with partners and senior stakeholders, and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
