About This Opportunity

As the Manager, Student Support & Wellbeing, you will empower high-performing, cohesive teams to elevate student outcomes and experiences across the university. This pivotal leadership role involves driving continuous improvement and overseeing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams responsible for engagement, comprehensive student support (including under 18 international students), and fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and psychosocial safety within welcoming student spaces.

Key responsibilities will include:

Lead High-Performing Student-Centred Teams

  • Empower teams to deliver exceptional student-centred service by prioritising staff wellbeing, optimising workload management, and fostering a productive and creative culture responsive to evolving student needs.

Drive Collaborative Service Delivery

  • Collaborate and partner across UQ to ensure proactive and effective responses to student needs, underpinned by a shared understanding of holistic student-centred service delivery.

Champion Strategic Initiatives & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead assigned initiatives, fostering positive collaboration and advocacy with stakeholders and subject matter experts, applying evidence-informed best practice to enhance the student experience.

Manage Resources & Performance

  • Oversee budget and resource optimisation (including casual staffing), establish data sources and reporting to promote SSWS activities aligned with UQ's strategy, and direct the development of effective student support materials and self-service options.

About You

Essential

  • Degree/qualifications with extensive relevant management experience.
  • Proven experience in leading diverse teams to deliver effective and efficient client-centred services, encompassing workload management, delegation, performance management, and staff development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and capacity to operate within student support and wellbeing services, including awareness of the needs of diverse and vulnerable student groups.
  • Significant experience in building and maintaining effective partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders across complex organisations, including senior levels, to achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement project plans (including outcome measurement and evaluation), manage workload under pressure, and communicate effectively to motivate staff towards innovation and resilience.

Desirable

  • Ability to develop resources for student-centred services, coupled with an awareness of higher education teaching and learning pedagogy, innovation, and national/international student experience issues (including legislative frameworks and applying trauma-informed, intersectional approaches).
  • Experience in frontline service delivery within a large, multi-site higher education or similar environment, alongside an understanding of information systems and the implementation of technology solutions.
