• This is a full-time fixed term position through to June 2026 with salary in the range $100,554 to $109,496 (HEW 7) plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.

About This Opportunity

As a Principal Student Advisor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students' academic and personal well-being by providing guidance on a range of topics, including financial assistance, accommodation, and disability support. You will also develop and deliver programs to address specific student needs, such as transition, adjustment, and mental health.

The position functions as part of a larger team within Student Support and Wellbeing Services, working closely with other key providers including Student Counselling, Academic Skills Advisers, Libraries and Academic Units. This role will also act as a referral service to external agencies and internal specialist areas.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Provide individual and group support to students, addressing their academic, personal, and wellbeing needs.
• Oversee and coordinate support services for students with disabilities, ensuring they have the necessary accommodations and resources.
• Develop and implement student support programs and initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Mentor and supervise staff, providing guidance and training on student support practices.
• Collaborate with academic staff, other support services, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
• Conduct research to inform best practices in student support and contribute to the development of innovative strategies. Undertake strategic applied research proactively, ensuring effective operations to support students with a permanent or temporary disability, including illness and injury, during their studies.
• Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

Pre-organised travel to other clinical units within the Rural Clinical School will be required i.e. Bundaberg Clinical Unit (4 times a year) and Hervey Bay Clinical Unit (2 times a year, which may be merged with the Bundaberg Clinical Unit visits)

About You

Essential:

• Relevant tertiary qualification (egs: Social Work, Sociology, Behavioural Science, or Psychology) and significant experience in student support or a related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport, provide empathetic support, and negotiate effectively.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and resolve complex issues.
• Experience in developing and implementing student support programs and initiatives. Ability to identify student needs and tailor interventions accordingly.
• Proficiency in using technology to deliver services and communicate with students, including online appointments, meetings, and workshops.

Desirable:

• Experience providing welfare, academic or disability support services, particularly in a tertiary or related environment.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment and may be required to complete background checks including but not limited to criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
