About us

The NSW Police Force (NSWPF) is one of the largest police forces in the western world, with more than 20,000 employees, including more than 4,000 administrative employees who support the sworn officers that provide a range of law and order services 24 hours a day, seven days a week to the socially, geographically and culturally diverse community of NSW.

Who Are We?

We are not a recruitment team (but we are close!). We are a small team of eight and provide transactional services including advertising roles, preparing shortlists, offers and onboarding to support the hiring process for unsworn roles across NSW Police. The roles we support in NSW Police are unique; from administration assistants to pilots; dog handlers to musicians and everything in between!

We are entering an exciting time with a new recruitment platform implementation occurring over the next 12 months and other continuous improvement activities and you will be instrumental in leading this team through this large-scale change.

As the Team Leader, you will be responsible for the operational management and performance of a small team of Senior Placement Officers and Placement Officers. You will oversee day to day workloads, allocate tasks, manage priorities and act as the first point of contact for escalations.

With a strong focus on service delivery, stakeholder support and process compliance, you will play a key role in ensuring placement activities run smoothly and efficiently.

You will also lead and support continuous improvement projects and play a vital part in supporting the adoption and implementation of a new recruitment platform, ensuring your team is well prepared and confident through the transition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operational running of the team including work allocation, approvals, training, and support.
  • Act as the first point of contact for team escalation and complex hiring manager queries.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop staff to ensure a collaborative and high performing team.
  • Provide expert advice on GSE Legislation, Police policy and supporting compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in service delivery and system use.

This role may also require you to work weekends and travel regionally once or twice a year as needed to support recruitment campaigns and attend community events.

About You

You are a confident and organised leader who thrives in a fast paced, process driven environment. You will have a keen eye for detail, a proactive mindset and support our success in both continuous improvement and culture.

  • Proven experience in supervising small operational teams including allocating work, managing priorities, and receiving escalations.
  • Familiarity with talent acquisition systems e.g. Taleo or similar and ticketing systems such as Service Now for workload allocation
  • Understanding of GSE recruitment requirements and legislation and ability to interpret policy and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to support and coach both team members and stakeholders.
  • Experience or willingness to lead and support teams through change.
  • A collaborative approach and ability to foster a positive team culture.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with a commitment to service.
