About the role

This full-time Accountant role at Austral Accountants' in Greenslopes, QLD 4120 offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing accounting practice. As an Assistant Accountant, you will provide a range of accounting and administrative support to the wider accounting team, contributing to the overall success of the business.

What you'll be doing
Perform tax and accounting-related functions across the business including but not limited to:

Managing client relationships once settled into processes.

Working closely with the partners.

The preparation of clients' working trial balance including work papers and relevant reconciliations.

The preparation of income tax returns and financial statements.

Dealing with Division 7A, CGT and FBT calculations.

SMSF financials and Tax returns.

Assisting/mentoring junior staff and some review work.

Payroll, Superannuation, Payroll Tax, and Work Cover processing and calculations for the team's portfolio of payroll clients.

Applying the knowledge of relevant taxation legislation.

General accounting, tax, and business consulting.

What we're looking for

Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field

At least 2 years of experience as an accountant or similar role, preferably within a professional services environment

Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and software (e.g. MYOB, QuickBooks, Xero)

Experience with all four required software systems: XERO Tax, MYOB AE, QuickBooks, and BGL 360

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Proficient in MS Office suite, particularly Excel

Professional accounting qualification (IPA/CA/CPA) or currently studying towards one
