The role
We are seeking a competent and qualified Draftsman / mechanical engineer with strong CAD experience to work on-site in Uralla commencing late January 2026. This is a long term position. You will:

Produce detailed design drawings and CAD models of livestock crates and related metal fabrication components, based on client and internal specifications.

Develop and maintain component specifications that align with the manufacturing process: cutting, welding, fabrication and assembly.

Work with new software systems to integrate order-of-materials procurement, component tracking, and process workflows.

Assist in calibration and setup of laser-cutting equipment aligned to the CAD drawings and manufacturing tolerances.

Liaise closely with the business owner and foreman to optimise scheduling, fabrication workflows, production efficiency and delivery timelines.

Ensure design documentation and shop-floor implementation align: from drawing, through laser cutting, welding, fabrication, to final build.

What we’re looking for

A relevant qualification in Drafting / CAD (mechanical, structural steel or fabrication focused).

Demonstrated experience in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks or equivalent) in a fabrication/metal-work environment.

Experience or at least strong familiarity with structural steel details, metal fabrication processes (cutting, welding, assembly).

Ability to translate drawings into manufacturing workflows – specify components, prepare parts lists, configure machine setup (laser cutting) and work with fabrication teams.

Strong communication skills – you will work closely with the owner, production foreman and the production team to ensure design‐to-fabrication alignment.

A hands-on, pragmatic outlook – we value people who think in terms of “how will this get built” rather than just “how is it drawn”.
