The Organisation:
A leading Queensland government department is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Accountant. You will be working for a complex organisation providing indispensable support to the lives of Queenslanders. You will be working closely with the Finance Director, who understands the requirements and expectations of this role very well and will be able to provide exceptional support while you get your head around things. You will not be working excessive hours. This role is initially a temporary position for 6 months. There is a possibility that this role will be extended for a further six months. You will have work-from-home flexibility.

The Position:
This role will ultimately require you to take ownership of the month-end activities. You will be responsible for:

• Undertake internal reviews of current practices, processes, and results. This will involve working across multiple stakeholders in the department to understand current processes and identify any areas for improvement
• Reviewing existing policies and procedures
• Oversee and prepare technical position papers
• Support the organisation with your strong FBT knowledge
• Ensure the integrity of the general ledger
• End-of-month financial reporting

Your Profile:
This role will be an ideal opportunity if:

• Sound understanding of preparing technical position papers
• Good working knowledge of FBT
• You may have government or commercial experience working in a large, complex organisation.
• Your strong Excel skills allow you to work with large volumes of data, particularly in managing the bank reconciliations
• You enjoy being hands-on and have an incredibly strong attention to detail.
• It is advantageous but not critical that you are a CPA/CA qualified professional
• You should have very strong Excel skills and ERP systems experience, preferably SAP
