Your Opportunity

Are you passionate about improving your local biosecurity across the Southern Downs? This job could be for you!

In this role, you will be engaging with the Community to help ensure landowners meet their biosecurity obligations. Being instrumental in leading Council's pest management projects, you will also be reviewing various opportunities for improved and innovative biosecurity management in the Southern Down Region.

Term: Temporary, Full-time | Employment Term until Friday, 23rd October 2026

Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight

Pay Level: $3,061.70 per fortnight (Level 4), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading

In addition to the above pay rate, you will receive payment of the following current applicable allowance:

  • On-Call Allowance; and
  • Commuter Use Vehicle.

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Warwick or Stanthorpe, Queensland (will be negotiated with successful candidate)

Other Information: Flexible Start/Finish Time (within daily standard hours)

About the Department

The Environmental Services Department falls within the Communities, Planning and Environmental Services directorate and plays a critical role in delivering on the liveability of our region. The Regulatory Services, Local Laws and Waste Management teams cover a diverse range of roles and responsibilities from ensuring food and public health safety, investigating environmental nuisance and pollution incidences, animal control, pest management, environmental sustainability programs and planning and building compliance.
Furthermore, the department delivers all aspects of waste operations including roadside collections, waste facilities, investigating waste minimisation and resource recovery opportunities and the strategic management of waste in Southern Downs.

  • Implementation of strategy and initiatives in a broad range of services and operations related to environmental management;
  • Interpret and analyse data for the preparation of ecological and corridor mapping designed to improve biodiversity understanding in the region, assist with referrals, decision notices, and compliance actions relevant to the management of flora and fauna;
  • Encourage the implementation of best practice techniques and methodologies as they relate to environmental management across the organisation and create partnerships within the Community and across Governments; and
  • Maintaining records consistent with Council requirements and the Privacy Principles.

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Immunisation record indicating Q Fever AND Hepatitis A&B vaccinations or immunity; OR the ability to be vaccinated in accordance with Council's Immunisation Procedure
  • A Class C (Car) Licence or greater; and
  • A White Construction Card, or the ability to obtain one.
  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • VACCINATIONS
  • REQUIRED LICENCES & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary environmental issues, strategies for their management and an understanding of the regulatory framework within which they are managed
  • High-level computer skills and experience in current office computer programs and systems, including the use of GIS
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements related to environmental (flora, fauna and invasive pests) matters, approvals and compliance action
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
