National Centre of Indigenous Excellence
Posted 3 days ago
About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Facilities Coordinator to join the team at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) in Redfern — a place known as the heart of community.
This is not a desk-based job. You’ll be out on the floor, leading by example, supporting Duty Managers, and ensuring our Fitness & Aquatics Centre is safe, compliant, and welcoming for everyone who walks through our doors.
In this fixed term role, you’ll work closely with the Centre Manager, Duty Managers, the onsite Facility Manager, and the local community to support daily operations, coordinate maintenance, oversee contractors, manage compliance, and uphold the operational excellence that NCIE is known for.
What You’ll Do
Oversee daily operations, building repairs, and maintenance
Supervise and support Duty Managers with a “lead-from-the-floor” approach
Manage contractors and ensure WHS, building, and pool compliance
Handle reporting and incident management in Lucidity
Foster positive relationships with staff, members, and the broader community
Contribute to creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment for all
About You
You’re a confident, empathetic leader who thrives in dynamic environments and genuinely cares about people — staff, members, and community alike.
You’ll bring:
Experience in facilities or operations management (fitness, aquatics, leisure, or similar)
Strong understanding of WHS, compliance, and child safety standards
A people-first mindset with exceptional interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Cultural awareness and the ability to engage respectfully with diverse communities
A willingness to listen, learn, and lead with authenticity and integrity
Flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends
You’ll also hold (or be willing to obtain prior to commencement):
Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard Licence
First Aid & CPR Certificates
Working With Children Check and National Police Check
Desirable:
Qualifications in facility management, sport & recreation, or a related field
Pool Plant Operations or Aquatic Technical Operator certification
Why You’ll Love Working Here
At NCIE, we’re more than a fitness centre — we’re a community hub that connects, empowers, and celebrates culture. You’ll be part of a values-driven team that takes pride in creating a space where everyone feels safe and supported.
Play an active role in a community-focused, culturally rich organisation
Work with purpose and be part of something that truly matters
Access staff benefits including free gym and pool membership and salary packaging
Thrive in a supportive team that values honesty, care, and collaboration
We Encourage Indigenous Applicants
This position is identified as suitable for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants, in accordance with Section 12(1) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), which allows for measures to redress disadvantage experienced by Indigenous Australians.
