About Us
Orana Support Service is a leading community organization based in Dubbo, providing crisis accommodation, homelessness services, and tailored support to men, women, and families across the region. Our mission is to provide safety, stability, and pathways to independence for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Client Support Officer to join our Men’s Refuge team. The refuge provides short-term crisis accommodation and case support to men who are homeless or in crisis.
About the Role
The Client Support Officer plays a vital role in supporting residents within the refuge and assisting them in transitioning back into stable housing and community life. You’ll work as part of a committed team providing day-to-day assistance, emotional support, and practical help to residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide supervision, emotional and practical support to residents in the refuge.
Assist clients with moving into new accommodation when exiting the refuge.
Drive and assist with the safe transport of client belongings — being comfortable driving a 4.2m truck, ute, or vehicle with a trailer will be highly beneficial.
Conduct intake, risk assessments, and case documentation as required.
Support clients with daily living skills, budgeting, and maintaining routines.
Liaise with external agencies (housing, health, employment, AOD, mental health) to support client goals.
Ensure the safety, security, and cleanliness of the refuge environment.
Maintain accurate case notes, shift reports, and handovers.
About You
You are an empathetic, reliable, and practical team member with a genuine desire to help others. You can communicate effectively, remain calm in high-pressure situations, and uphold strong professional boundaries.
Essential Criteria:
Experience in community services, crisis accommodation, or homelessness support.
Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred practice.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and de-escalation skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Competent driving skills; willingness to assist with moves and logistics.
Current WWCC, National Police Check, and NSW Driver Licence.
Desirable:
Qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Mental Health, or related field (Cert IV or above).
Experience working with men facing housing instability, AOD use, or mental health challenges.
MR or HR licence or experience with small trucks/trailers.
