The Role: Head of Discipline Primary School & HR & Compliance Officer
The Head of Discipline will:
Ø Play a crucial role in maintaining a positive and productive learning environment within the secondary school.
Ø Oversee student behavior, implement disciplinary policies, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to ensure a safe and respectful school atmosphere.
Ø promote a culture of responsibility, accountability, and fairness among students, fostering their personal and academic development.
The HR& Compliance will;
Ø Manage all aspects of human resources and compliance within the school. This involves handling recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes for faculty and staff, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, managing employee relations and performance evaluations, administering benefits and compensation, and facilitating professional development opportunities.
Ø Foster a positive work culture, resolve conflicts, and support the overall mission and goals of the school through effective HR/Compliance practices.
Ø Act as a liaison between management and employees, providing guidance and support to both parties while ensuring a fair and equitable work environment.
Key Responsibilities – Head of Discipline:
Ø Develop, implement, and enforce school disciplinary policies and procedures in collaboration with the school leadership team.
Ø Stay informed about educational laws and regulations related to student discipline and ensure compliance.
Ø Monitor and assess student behaviour to identify patterns and address issues promptly.
Ø Work closely with teachers to address individual student concerns and implement intervention strategies when necessary.
Ø Respond to and manage disciplinary incidents, ensuring a fair and consistent approach to resolution.
Ø Collaborate with school security and local authorities when necessary.
Ø Communicate regularly with parents regarding student behavior, addressing concerns and sharing updates on progress.
Ø Collaborate with teachers to develop strategies for maintaining a positive classroom environment and managing disruptive behavior.
Ø Provide training and professional development opportunities for teachers on effective classroom management and discipline.
Ø Stay current on best practices in discipline and behavior management in education.
Ø Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of disciplinary incidents, interventions, and resolutions.
Ø Prepare reports for school administrators and other stakeholders as needed.
Ø Collaborate with the school counselling team to provide support and guidance to students facing behavioural challenges.
Ø Implement proactive programs to foster positive behaviour and character development.
Ø Engage with the community to build partnerships and support for maintaining a safe and positive school environment.
Ø Attend parent-teacher meetings, community events, and other gatherings as a representative of the school
Key Responsibilities – Human Resources:
Ø Change management and workforce planning.
Ø Recruitment management – interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new staff.
Ø Onboarding new employees including management of inductions and probationary periods.
Ø Managing and maintaining all staff personnel records. All records to be always up to date.
o Qualifications; - any other correspondence (payroll / HR) relating to the staff member.
Ø Manage staff appraisal, staff training, and personal development planning.
Ø Conduct and report on staff surveys and provide accurate and timely reports.
Ø Drafting HR policies and ensuring compliance with employment legislation.
Ø Provide advice, investigate, and report on employee relations issues including internal staff grievances and external complaints.
Ø Liaison with Workers’ Compensation Agencies and rehabilitation providers.
Ø Co-ordinate all return-to-work processes.
Ø Maintaining contact with staff and management throughout the RTW period
Ø Maintaining annual review lists for Professional Development, Training, and Leave.
Ø Implement and maintain the school’s new staff Induction package.
Ø Continual improvement, development, maintenance, and coordination of the induction process
Ø Developing; Implementing and Co-ordinating School HR Policies and Procedures
Ø Liaise with all management and leadership team members of the school.
Ø Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of human resources, experience, and expertise.
Ø Demonstrated experience of effective negotiation, collaboration, and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders.
Ø Demonstrated high level computer skills including Word, Excel.
Ø Keep management abreast of any new and/or existing HR changes. Assist staff with HR related queries.
Ø Coordinating employment advertisements
Ø Creating first round short lists
Ø Preparing candidate correspondence letters: Unsuccessful / Next Interview / Successful / Letter of offer
Ø Arranging Pre-Employment checks: Medical / Referees
Ø Ensure reasonable care is taken for health and safety of self, and that of others who may be affected by acts or omissions.
Ø In addition: comply, so far as reasonably able, with any reasonable instruction that is given by the school to comply with relevant WHS Acts, Regulations, Codes, Practices and Policies and procedures, and cooperate with any reasonable policy or procedure of the school in regards to health or safety at the workplace that has been notified to workers.
Ø Uphold the values, ethos, and CHARACTER of the College
Key Responsibilities – Compliance
Ø Monitor and ensure the school’s compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to education standards, student safety, and privacy (e.g., NESA).
Ø Stay current with changes in laws, regulations, and best practices related to education compliance, and ensure that the school adapts accordingly.
Ø Develop, implement, and regularly review school policies to ensure they meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
Ø Ensure policies are communicated clearly to staff, students, and parents and are consistently enforced.
Ø Advise school leadership on compliance-related issues and provide recommendations for policy adjustments or improvements.
Ø Provide training and support to school staff and administrators on compliance-related issues, including data privacy, student rights, safety standards, and more.
Ø Create and conduct workshops on legal and regulatory compliance for teachers, administrators, and other school personnel.
Ø Conduct regular audits and inspections of school operations to assess compliance with policies, regulations, and safety standards.
Ø Identify any compliance gaps or risks and work with leadership to implement corrective actions.
Ø Maintain detailed records of compliance activities, including audits, reports, and staff training.
Ø Ensure that all required documentation, reports, and records are accurately maintained and easily accessible for review by regulatory bodies.
Ø Investigate any complaints or reports of non-compliance or policy violations within the school.
Ø Work closely with other relevant departments to address issues such as discrimination, harassment, or safety violations.
Ø Serve as the primary point of contact with external regulatory agencies, including government bodies, accreditation organizations, and law enforcement as necessary.
Ø Assist in preparing for audits, inspections, or assessments by external regulatory bodies, ensuring the school is fully compliant during these reviews.
Ø Identify compliance-related risks to the school and take proactive steps to mitigate potential issues.
Ø Work with school leadership to develop risk management strategies that ensure ongoing compliance and protect the school from legal or financial penalties.
Ø Ensure the school complies with laws and regulations related to the privacy and confidentiality of student data.
Ø Oversee the secure handling, storage, and sharing of student records and personal information, ensuring staff adherence to privacy policies.
Ø Ensure the school meets the standards for accreditation from relevant educational bodies (NESA).
Ø Prepare and submit required documentation for accreditation or certification processes, and ensure continuous alignment with accreditation standards.
Ø Provide regular compliance reports to the school board and senior leadership, summarizing compliance activities, challenges, and recommendations.
Ø Communicate compliance issues or concerns clearly and promptly to leadership, staff, and external bodies when necessary.
Ø Foster a school-wide culture of compliance by promoting awareness of policies, regulations, and best practices among all stakeholders (students, staff, and parents).
Ø Lead efforts to ensure the school environment is transparent, fair, and ethically sound.

Teachers at Minarah College are employed under the Independent Schools (Teachers) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025
