- Permanent Full-Time Career Opportunity – 35 hours per week

At Moree Plains Shire Council, safety isn’t just a compliance measure; it’s a shared value embedded in how we work, lead, and support one another. We’re seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Safety Advisor to join our People and Culture Division and help embed best-practice Work Health and Safety (WHS) across our diverse operations.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the WHS Business Partner, you’ll play a pivotal role in promoting a safe, healthy and compliant workplace culture. This position is ideal for an experienced WHS professional who thrives on being out in the field, partnering with teams, and influencing safe work behaviours.
Your remit will span across:
Conducting workplace inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments
Supporting the development and continuous improvement of WHS systems and procedures
Managing Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Job Demand Analyses (JDA), and contributing to the Training Matrix and Training Needs Assessments
Delivering toolbox talks, inductions and WHS training sessions across the organisation
Supporting employee health and wellbeing initiatives and coordinating statutory testing and EAP programs
You’ll be a trusted advisor and visible presence across Council, partnering with operational leaders to drive continuous improvement in safety culture, compliance and wellbeing.

About You
You’re an assertive yet approachable safety professional who brings both technical knowledge and people skills to the table. You take pride in being proactive, solutions-focused, and able to translate legislation into practical, operationally relevant actions. You’ll be confident engaging with staff across all levels, from field crews to senior managers, to influence safe practices and drive accountability.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
A Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or higher), paired with relevant industry experience
Demonstrated experience conducting WHS investigations, audits and safety observations
Strong understanding of the Work Health & Safety Act 2011, WHS Regulation 2025, and associated SafeWork NSW guidelines
Highly developed communication and computer literacy skills, with the ability to prepare professional documentation and reports
A current White Card and Class C Driver’s Licence
Desirable qualifications such as Drug and Alcohol Collector training, First Aid certification, or Local Government experience will be highly regarded.
