Embolden is the peak body for specialist domestic, family and sexual violence services in South Australia. Embolden advocates for people at risk of or experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence and represents the providers of specialist services that support them.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Principal Policy & Project Officer is responsible leading the provision of policy advice, representations to government and advocacy, the delivery of strategic projects, and supporting a network for specialist domestic, family and sexual violence services in South Australia.

The Principal Policy & Project Officer is an office-based role in Adelaide on Kaurna Country, with provision for flexible working arrangements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the development of Embolden’s policy and advocacy positions, informed by lived experience, specialist services and research.

Support the development and implementation of a sector-wide advocacy agenda, and a sector-wide approach to policy development and co-design around services for people at risk of or experiencing and using domestic, family and sexual violence.

Lead involvement by Embolden and the specialist domestic, family and sexual violence sector in government engagement processes, including around new policy and legislation impacting on or addressing domestic, family and sexual violence in SA.

Lead the design, development and delivery of strategic projects, in line with Embolden’s vision and purpose, applying project management principles, processes and skills

Engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government, services and people with lived experience, and work collaboratively with Embolden member organisations and other stakeholders.

Support Embolden to maintain working relationships with other state and national peak bodies and industry associations and represent Embolden as delegated by the Chief Executive Officer, including on advisory groups, in meetings and publicly.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Tertiary qualification(s) in social work, social sciences, psychology, community services, public policy or equivalent relevant experience in the area of social policy and/or social and community services.

At least 5 years’ experience in policy development and/or strategic projects, and experience in the area of social policy and/or social and community services.

Experience in working with people at risk of or experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence, or a sophisticated understanding of the issues facing people at risk of or experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence.

A sound understanding of the domestic, family and sexual violence services sector in South Australia, and of the systemic issues and barriers to equitable access to services for diverse groups.

A sound understanding of political and legislative processes in South Australia and federally, and of state and federal policy and law informing responses to domestic, family and sexual violence is desirable.

Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess and critically evaluate information and research. Experience in outcomes measurement and evaluation is desirable.

High-level written communication skills, and the ability to prepare policy briefs and analyses based on consultations, published data and research.

Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills and experience in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Ability to manage workload and competing demands and the ability to work independently and flexibly, as well as cooperatively as part of a team.
