About the opportunity:
The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) is seeking passionate and strategic thinkers to join our high-performing Policy and Strategy teams. As a Principal or Senior Policy Officer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping policies that support the State's transition to a net-zero carbon economy, drive innovation, and deliver prosperity for all South Australians.
We are currently recruiting for:
Policy team | ASO7 Principal Policy Officer - Multiple ongoing and term positions
Lead complex policy projects and provide expert advice on whole-of-portfolio matters. You'll manage multiple initiatives, engage with diverse stakeholders, and shape strategic policy directions in the energy and resources sectors.
Policy team | ASO6 Senior Policy Officer - Term contract, Energy focus
Focus on energy market reforms and regulatory frameworks. You'll conduct complex research, develop policy options, and collaborate with industry and government bodies to support the State's energy transition.
Strategy team | ASO6 Senior Policy Officer - Ongoing, Strategy and Government Relations focus
Support strategic policy development across the energy and mining portfolio. You'll work closely with state and federal agencies, contribute to intergovernmental committees, and deliver high-level advice that drives South Australia's net-zero transformation.

What We're Looking For
Proven experience in policy development, implementation, and evaluation
Strong research and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities
Strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement capabilities
Knowledge of energy and/or resources sectors, government processes, and regulatory bodies (e.g., AEMO, AER, AEMC)
Qualifications:
Desirable: An appropriate tertiary qualification
Remuneration:
ASO6 salary range $98,478 - $104,165 per annum + superannuation
ASO7 salary range $108,109 - $116,864 per annum + superannuation
Full-time roles, working 37.5 hours per week
