The Role
As the successful candidate, you will work in a team of engineers and technical officers to provide Defence stakeholders with spectrum engineering advice and work to shape the policies, & procedures of spectrum management as a growing capability within Defence.
You will participate in domestic and international spectrum matters of strategic interest to Defence, working with other government agencies and foreign military partners.
You will provide support to a diverse Defence stakeholder community and external clients to manage spectrum risk for capability acquisition, and providing engineering support to Defence exercises and activities including a growing electronic warfare community.
Occasional planned domestic travel is required. There are opportunities for international travel for candidates displaying interest in particular work. Flexible (partial week) working from home arrangements exist.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
The successful applicant will work in a team of fellow spectrum engineers and specialists that manage the use of the radiofrequency spectrum by Defence at a regulatory and strategic level, and providing operational spectrum support to the Australian Defence Force.
The team consists of experienced Engineers and Technical professionals that over the years have gained experience in managing spectrum for Defence systems.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Experience with modelling/simulating systems. A background in Physics, Mathematics, Software Engineering or Telecom/Communications Engineering is preferred.
- Have the ability to ‘think on their feet’ and respond to a dynamic and changing environment positively.
- Effective problem solving, deductive reasoning skills and capacity to think strategically and develop plans and processes to enhance business outcomes.
- Experience in application of communications engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks in planning, decision-making and priority setting.
- Skills to build and sustain positive relationships, actively participate in teamwork and motivate and mentor developing engineers.
- Have a positive attitude to learning, and an ability to pick up complex skills quickly.
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills.
- High-level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives.
- Skills to manage workflows, resources, of a small team including detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.
