The Client

Our client is a dynamic Australian healthcare organisation with extensive international operations and a focus on innovation through a prodigious R&D portfolio that is world class and aims for tangible outcomes. This role will focus on supporting the Australian R&D portfolio which is the main driver of the Groups global portfolio.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CFO and managing a small team, you will be responsible for a broad range of reporting and analytical activities. You will be engaging extensively with key operational stakeholders, providing advice, business partnering and commercial guidance to balance operational objectives with financial discipline across a world class R&D portfolio. Specifically, your duties will include:

• Lead Funding Compliance: Ensure all projects meet regulatory and funding requirements.
• Own the Numbers: Oversee budget and expenses and project completion with precision.
• Be a Trusted Advisor: Review contracts and provide finance-focused feedback to external partners.
• Build Partnerships: Foster strong relationships with internal teams, funders, and stakeholders across Australia and international operations where best practice insights can be shared.
• Stay Ahead: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in R&D project management.
• Unlock Insights: Deliver clear, actionable financial analysis and monthly reporting, explaining variances and recommending improvements.
• Drive Strategy: Play an active role in shaping the organisation’s direction on R&D spend through supporting the ELT and Board (where appropriate).
• Champion Innovation: Develop and implement new finance initiatives, projects, and systems efficiencies in collaboration with Group Finance.
• Passion: Show interest and respect for the dedicated professionals whose intellectual IP is being commercialised to deliver outcomes for the betterment of all.

Your Traits

Ideally you will be a qualified CA/CPA who is able to engage with stakeholders at all levels. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment working within a collegiate team culture that encourages and respects input from all. You will have a track record in similar roles managing budgets and analysis of project expenditure in an R&D environment or similar project/operational environment. You will also be highly proficient with MS Excel and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will have the ability to analyse and handle detail and be a highly motivated team player who has a ‘can do’ attitude.
