As the Manager, you will:
• Lead and manage the business of the work area, including:
o plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet unit goals
o analyse, prepare and interpret legislation, policy, and other issues and trends of significance to the unit and its customers
o manage and oversee the preparation of reports, submissions, correspondence and briefs and other complex or high-level documents
o develop effective working relationships with other managers and staff within the department, within the Queensland Public Sector, and with relevant external organisations.
• Oversee and prepare presentations, oral and written reports, briefing materials, planning documents and reports to support ongoing programs to the Executive Director, Deputy Directors-General, Director-General and Minister.
• Provide leadership and strategic direction in the development and implementation of strategies and initiatives relating to conservation policy.
• Work in collaboration and build effective partnerships within the division and department and with external stakeholders, including state and local governments as well as industry and environment stakeholders and peak bodies, to inform policy development and implementation of initiatives.
• Develop and oversee the implementation of key policy and program initiatives.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
For this role, you'll need
• Advanced people leadership and management skills to effectively manage a multidisciplinary team and complex projects to achieve outcomes aligned to government priorities.
• Extensive project management skills and well-developed organisational skills with an ability to meet deadlines and achieve results in a complex policy and legislative environment.
• Proven high-level communication and interpersonal skills including high-quality written skills and capacity to advise, negotiate and consult on complex issues to support high level decision making.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake complex research, policy analysis and development in relation to environment protection, natural resource management or land use planning legislation and develop strategies as a result.
• It is desirable to have knowledge of legislation, policy and contemporary issues relating to environmental conservation, natural resource management and/or land use planning.
• Role model team leader behaviours as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland.
• Contribute to workplace safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion by bringing your unique experiences and perspectives.
