What does the business unit do?
Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) leads emergency management in Victoria by working with government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies. EMV is a statutory entity and is part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
Operations
The purpose of the Operations directorate is to lead the emergency operational coordination and state operations in Victoria by working with communities, government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
This role is based in Melbourne and requires out of business hours work and travel across the state to meet the needs of the Volunteer Marine Search & Rescue sector.
What will the role do?
The Senior Project Officer role is part of the Marine Search & Rescue (MSAR) team which supports the agencies, volunteers and units that deliver MSAR services in Victoria. The incumbent is expected to lead and deliver EMV's fleet replacement program and support volunteers in managing vessels within the National Law requirements.
Key tasks include:
- Coordinate the state-owned vessel fleets ongoing readiness and compliance within national law requirements.
- Coordinate end to end procurement activities with vessel and equipment purchases
- Lead joint engagement activities, workshops and outputs with volunteers and stakeholders.
- Plan and coordinate scheduled and unscheduled vessel maintenance needs.

What skills and knowledge should the Senior Project Officer - Marine Fleet Officer have?
As our ideal candidate, you will have:
- Experience in coordinating government procurement or project management processes
- Experience in fleet management or commercial marine vessels
- Ability to lead and manage workshops and development of project management documents
- Provide end to end project management for the design, tender and delivery of new marine search and rescue vessels, scheduled maintenance programs and rectification of unplanned issues.
- Practical working knowledge of commercial vessel construction including hull form, engines and electrical systems.
- Procurement or project management qualifications or experience.
- Domestic commercial vessel qualifications or experience desirable.
- Experience in marine search and rescue preferred.
