The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Senior Policy and Projects Officer to provide a critical role within the Sentence Management Unit
About the Business Unit
Sitting within the Corrections and Justice Services Group, Corrections Victoria (CV) operates Victoria's adult corrections system. CV is responsible for achieving the appropriate balance between a safe, secure and humane system while providing programs and services that seek to rehabilitate people through addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
The Sentence Management Division (SMD) sits within Corrections Victoria and consists of the following units:
- Sentence Management Operations
- Sentence Calculation and Warrant Administration
- Video Conferencing Coordination Unit
- Major Offenders Unit
- Counter Terrorism Coordination
- Office of the Assistant Commissioner
- Maribyrnong Community Residential
- MARAM Framework Implementation
About the Role
The Senior Policy and Project Officer is responsible for writing the Sentence Management Manual, as well as the regular review and updating of the manual to strive for continuous improvement. The manual outlines the legislative and policy frameworks that relate to the sentence management function. It provides direction to staff to ensure they perform their duties consistently and in line with legal and human rights requirements, as well as with Corrections Victoria requirements.
The Senior Policy and Project Officer will also support a range of corporate governance functions, such as leading the implementation of outcomes from investigations and reviews, with a particular focus on strategic reforms across the Division
Some of your duties will include:
- Ensure the Sentence Management Manual adheres to legislative and policy requirements, including researching, writing and reviewing the manual's chapters with a view for continuous improvement of sentence management functions.
- Undertake strategic projects and reviews to support implementation of recommendations from high level government inquiries, reviews, and investigations.
- Lead corporate governance functions on behalf of the division, including our responsibilities to parliamentary functions, such as preparing and maintaining Possible Parliamentary Questions and Public Accounts and Estimates Committee papers.
- Provide authoritative advice to interdepartmental and executive committees, including regular project status updates and relevant information relating to project outputs and timelines.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience in the development and implementation of policy and procedures, including the technical writing of manuals.
- Proven ability to plan, monitor and manage complex projects within a legislative framework.
Qualifications/requirements
- A degree in law or public policy is desirable but not essential.
