The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to provide a critical role at/within Custodial Operations.

About the Business Unit

The System Performance Branch in Custodial Operations comprises three teams, which are: Operational Assurance, Compliance and Reviews; Continuous Improvement; and Statewide Operational Support. The branch provides authoritative, strategic, operational and policy advice, and briefing papers on a range of correctional issues to senior correctional management and is responsible for a range of work primarily across prisons. Its responsibilities include state-wide oversight of A Safer Places to Work, a range of central functions, including operational policy development, review and amendment, convening and participating in state-wide managers' meetings, performance monitoring and reporting, incident reporting, responding to family violence information sharing requests, oversight of internal and external reviews and investigations, coordination of Corrections Victoria's responses to coronial matters and litigation, auditing, correspondence, prison outreach and implementation support and general advice to prisons and other departmental staff and internal and external stakeholders.

About the Role

The Senior Data Analyst reports to the Manager, System Capability and Reporting and is responsible for supporting the correctional system through the creation of various reporting systems and tools and conducting performance analysis. This role will analyse and report the outcomes of the System Performance Branch's oversight and assurance functions; be responsible for supporting the creation and maintenance of complex data systems enabling the analysis of incidents, operational practice, issues and trends, data collection and analysis across the correctional system.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Contribute to the maintenance and enhancements of reporting tools used by a variety of staff for the monitoring of performance measures and service delivery outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prison staff to ensure understanding of the current operational environment.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders in all areas of the correctional system to ensure system reporting capability is aligned to operational requirements.
  • Provide advice and support to the correctional system relating to in-house reporting systems and analysis capability.
  • Produce complex analysis products and summaries for inclusion in high level documents intended for an executive audience.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated understanding and awareness of the operational requirements of Corrections Victoria's prisons.
  • Demonstrated experience in the collection and analysis of complex information and preparation of high-quality reports that can be used to inform systemwide practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in the creation and maintenance of reporting systems.

Qualifications/requirements

  • There are no mandatory qualifications for this role; however a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline would be highly desirable.
