Lead Software Engineer – Java (Canberra)

We’re partnering with a leading technology firm delivering secure, scalable digital solutions for the public sector. Their Canberra engineering team is expanding, and they’re seeking a Lead Software Engineer (Java) to drive technical delivery, mentor engineers, and shape high-quality software solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing
Start your day with a stand-up alongside project managers, business analysts, and engineers to align priorities and tackle technical challenges. Lead the design and delivery of Java-based solutions using Spring Boot, ensuring robust, secure, and scalable applications.

Guide the team through the full software development lifecycle, from requirements to deployment, mentoring junior engineers, reviewing code, and setting quality standards. Collaborate with cybersecurity, DevOps, and data specialists to ensure seamless integration and compliance across public sector systems.

About the Team The team excels in cloud transformation, systems integration, and digital product development, delivering projects like data analytics platforms and large-scale cloud migrations. You’ll join a collaborative, inclusive environment that values curiosity, excellence, and team success.

What You’ll Bring

• Advanced experience with Java 8+, Spring Boot, Spring Data, REST, J2EE, Hibernate, SOAP, SQL, Oracle
• Exposure to ReactJS, JavaScript, and cloud technologies
• Proven track record in technical leadership, mentoring, and solution design
• Strong understanding of systems integration and web services
• Familiarity with SAFe Agile and release/change management

Desirable:

• Experience with configuration management tools
• Background in government or large-scale enterprise projects
• NV1 Clearance
