The City of Wanneroo is seeking a motivated and experienced Coordinator Environmental Assets to lead the planning and management of natural conservation areas. This role is pivotal in ensuring the long-term preservation of the City’s environmental assets and supports the delivery of the Capital Works Program through activities such as Native Vegetation assessments and Clearing Permit applications.

As the leader of the Environmental Asset Planning Sub-Unit, you will drive strategic initiatives, manage environmental compliance, and collaborate across departments to integrate sustainability into infrastructure planning.

The Role
We are seeking a strategic, people-focused leader to join our Asset Planning team as Coordinator Environmental Assets. If you're passionate about conservation, sustainability, and empowering a high-performing team to deliver meaningful environmental outcomes, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

In this role, you will provide expert advice on:
• Conservation and land management practices
• Environmental legislation, particularly relating to the clearing of native vegetation
• Asset management of natural and coastal areas

A key challenge and opportunity, will be preparing and negotiating Clearing Permit applications to achieve optimal outcomes for the City in line with both State and Federal regulatory requirements.

About You
You must be adaptable and ready to take on a challenge. The role would be perfectly suited to someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as Environmental Science
  • Significant relevant experience in a similar role
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with relevant state and federal environmental legislation including undertaking native vegetation assessments associated with clearing permit applications
  • Extensive skills and knowledge in conservation and native vegetation management, rehabilitation practices and methodology
  • Advanced skills in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology.
  • Drivers Licence
  • Advanced people management skills to direct, manage, evaluate and motivate staff
  • Advanced communication, problem-solving skills, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Advanced research, analysis and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace including hazard identification when undertaking site visits
