About the role
We’re looking for a hands-on Retail Manager to own the total commercial performance and customer experience across a diverse, fast-moving retail portfolio. You’ll take end-to-end P&L accountability, sharpen the operating rhythm, and turn back-end efficiencies into a cohesive, high-quality front-end experience.
What you’ll deliver
Single P&L ownership across cafés, surf/outdoor, curated gifts and boutique liquor (sales, margin, wages, COGS, shrink, inventory).
Back-end efficiencies → front-end cohesion: standardised SOPs, unified loyalty/gift cards/click & collect, clean inventory/rostering rhythms, audit readiness.
Cross-brand synergies: shared seasonal calendar, consolidated buying/terms, consistent service standards, one reporting cadence.
People & performance: hire/coach Store Managers, right-size rosters to demand, lift accountability and retention.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Financial & commercial: build budgets/weekly forecasts; deliver sales, gross margin and EBITDA; manage labour and COGS; improve stockturn, cover and shrink.
Customer & brand: lock service standards and recovery protocols; ensure a seamless customer journey (loyalty, gift cards, exchanges, click & collect, packaging); maintain café recipe/quality standards; oversee VM and in-store storytelling.
Operations & compliance: systemise cash/stock/SOPs; ensure WHS, Food Safety/HACCP and RSA compliance; keep licence/audit ready; coordinate facilities to protect trade.
People leadership: recruit, onboard, coach and performance-manage; plan rosters to demand; set clear rhythms (huddles, 1:1s, weekly trade, monthly reviews).
Merchandise/menu & seasonal: own the seasonal calendar (drops, gifting peaks, café LTOs); curate by store; partner on terms, allocations and rebuys; launch campaigns OTIF.
Systems & continuous improvement: use POS/inventory/rostering/reporting tools to simplify work; map and fix workflow pain points; establish clean daily/weekly/month-end reporting.
Your 90-day plan
0–30 days: site walks, diagnostics, baseline KPIs, stabilise rosters, close compliance gaps.
31–60 days: embed weekly trade & labour routines, reset top COGS/margin levers, standardise café recipes/calibration, lock the seasonal calendar.
61–90 days: optimise inventory (OTB, cover, replenishment), embed customer-journey standards, present a QBR with insights/actions.
About you
7–10+ years’ multi-site leadership across mixed formats (cafés, fashion/surf/outdoor, gifts or liquor exposure ideal).
Proven P&L ownership with strong labour and inventory control.
Customer-obsessed, commercially sharp, data-driven; a practical coach who documents and scales what works.
Confident with POS/inventory (e.g. Shopify/LightSpeed), rostering (Employment Hero), and finance systems (Xero/NetSuite or similar).
RSA (or ability to obtain), Food Safety knowledge, driver’s licence; able to work some weekends/evenings.
