About the role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Facilities Team Leader to join Victoria Police's People Development Command (PDC), overseeing the Facilities Services Unit within Business Services Division. People Development Command (PDC) plays a vital role in building the skills, capabilities, and confidence of Victoria Police employees to lead and positively influence the community. Through the delivery of comprehensive initial training and ongoing development programs, PDC supports all Victoria Police employees from their initial induction through every stage of their career.

This varied and interesting role is forward-facing and involves coordinating all aspects of facilities maintenance at PDC sites across the state. Reporting to the Asset and Procurement Manager, you will work closely with Operational Infrastructure Division to see the successful delivery of inflight projects, as well as coordinating day-to-day responsibilities and management of the local team (consisting of maintenance coordinators and gardeners).

The Business Services Division of PDC provides essential support across a range of operational areas, including Facilities Management, Information Technology, Gardening Services, Accommodation Services, Events, Security, Catering, Student and Scheduling Services, as well as Human Resources and Finance.

Your duties will include:

  • Managing responses to reactive and planned maintenance requirements across a diverse range of asset classes.
  • Serving as first point of escalation for all customer service needs related to facilities maintenance.
  • Leading and supporting the Facilities Maintenance Team, including overseeing daily operations, managing staff performance, coordinating maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Maintaining a liaison point with stakeholders internal and external to the Command.
  • Providing support across PDC to ensure a safe, secure and fit for purpose environment at the Academy.
  • Work directly with the Operational Infrastructure Division and Asset and Procurement Manager / Divisional Manager on Academy infrastructure projects.
  • Implement process improvements and maintain up-to-date standard operating procedures for the unit.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive monthly reports.
  • Support the division in meeting budgetary objectives by monitoring expenditure, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and assisting with financial planning and reporting.
  • Represent the unit at command meetings providing updates and raising relevant matters.
  • Undertaking other tasks as required.

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to manage competing demands and be highly organised.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, leading and mentoring a team in an evolving, multi-skilled environment.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, dealing effectively with a wide range of personnel within a large and diverse organisation focusing on continual improvement.
  • An understanding of facilities maintenance or general mechanical knowledge and the customer service requirements of the position.
  • Determine priorities and meet strict timelines with minimal supervision, working independently and supporting the wider divisional team.
  • People management skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of health, safety and legislative requirements applicable to large sites and organisations.

Further Information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is primarily located at Victoria Police Academy, 1 View Mount Road, Glen Waverley however may require regular travel to other PDC managed sites.
