About us
Chatsworth House Pastoral is a family business that operates two properties in Western Victoria. The home property, Chatsworth House (2,700 ha), focuses on prime lamb production, angus breeding and cattle trading. Ellerslie (323 ha) near Byaduk complements this with cattle trading and finishing lambs.
Our vision is bringing together people, plants and animals for a better future. We value family, community and teamwork, a learning mindset, accountability, respect and low-stress livestock handling. We pursue profit and regeneration of the landscapes we live and work in.
About the role
The Ellerslie Farm Manager will run day-to-day operations at Ellerslie (~3 days/week) and work with the team at Chatsworth House on other days. It’s a hands-on role for someone who loves sheep & cattle, rotational grazing and data-informed decisions, and is comfortable working independently while communicating clearly with owners and the broader team.
This is a full-time position based 20 minutes south of Hamilton, at Byaduk, Victoria.
Key Responsibilities
Manage sheep & cattle enterprises for productivity, quality and sustainable outcomes, using low-stress stock handling.
Manage rotational grazing and pasture improvement programs; matching stocking rate to carrying capacity.
Annual planning, financial and feed budgeting and reporting to owners; communicating clearly and concisely.
Make timely buy/sell/agistment decisions aligned to grass and the season, while upholding WHS, biosecurity and environmental standards.
Deliver water & fencing improvements and maintain property, plant and infrastructure to a high, tidy, safe standard.
What we're looking for
Excellent communication; comfortable reporting to owners and liaising with an advisory board.
Team player with a can-do mindset, strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills
Exceptional animal health knowledge (sheep & cattle) and grazing management skills.
Skilled, calm, low-stress livestock handler; capable working dogs preferred.
Confident with farm software, technology and reporting.
Understanding of KLR livestock trading principles
Tertiary qualifications in agriculture, farm management, or a related field would be highly regarded
