Lead a respected Aboriginal community-controlled health service

Based in Inverell, Armajun Aboriginal Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Armajun) is a leading Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service providing holistic, culturally appropriate healthcare to Aboriginal people across the Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales.

Armajun was established following local community meetings in the late 1990s and formally registered in 1992, delivering its first client services in 2006. It became an Aboriginal Corporation in 2015 and continues to operate based on the principles of community control, self-determination, and cultural safety.

About the role

Based in Inverell, you will report to the Board of Directors, and provide strategic leadership to ensure Armajun’s vision, mission, and values are achieved.

You will lead the organisation at a strategic and governance level and be responsible for ensuring long term sustainability, strong community partnerships, and excellence in service delivery.

Key responsibilities include

Driving the development, implementation, and monitoring of Armajun’s 2022 to 2026 Strategic Plan

Positioning Armajun as a leader and voice in Aboriginal health at regional, state, and national levels

Building and maintaining relationships with government, community, and corporate partners to secure funding, policy influence, and sector leadership

Strengthening governance, transparency, and accountability frameworks that support the Board and uphold community trust

Ensuring financial sustainability, workforce growth, and organisational development in line with strategic goals

Acting as an advocate and spokesperson for Armajun and the communities it serves

Working closely with the Board, Deputy CEO, and Executive Team to oversee all areas of strategy, governance, performance, and community engagement

About you

You are an experienced and values driven executive leader who understands the importance of community control and cultural safety in Aboriginal health. You combine strategic insight with strong operational capability and have the confidence to represent Armajun’s interests at senior levels of government and within the health sector.

This is an Aboriginal identified role and is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

You will bring:

Post graduate qualification in business, management, health, or a related discipline

Extensive experience in executive leadership within Aboriginal community controlled or comparable organisations

Proven ability to influence government and sector policy at senior levels

Demonstrated success in strategic planning, governance, and financial management

Ability to build strong partnerships and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders

Deep understanding of Aboriginal health priorities, community engagement, and culturally safe practice
