Your new company
Ports Victoria is a vital Victorian statutory authority ensuring the safe, efficient navigation of commercial vessels through the port waters of Melbourne, Geelong and Hastings. Think marine traffic control for ships. Our teams guide large vessels smoothly and safely through some of Australia's busiest port channels. With around 100 dedicated staff, Ports Victoria operates in a highly regulated maritime safety environment, underpinning Victoria's economy and global trade connections.

As an organisation, we are collaborative, close-knit and mission-driven. Our culture is warm, approachable and non-hierarchical, where open conversations are encouraged at all levels.

Your new role
As our Workplace Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor, you’ll play a key role in shaping the safety culture, sustainable practices and operational excellence across Ports Victoria. You’ll provide expert guidance on health, safety, and environmental matters, support the development and implementation of policies, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards.

From assisting with conducting risk assessments and incident investigations to building capability across teams and supporting return-to-work programs, your work will help embed proactive safety practices and drive positive change. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll make a meaningful contribution to the wellbeing of our people, supporting a safer, more sustainable future for all our operations.

This role can be located either our North Geelong Head Office or our Port Melbourne office.

What you’ll be doing

Develop and maintain HSE policies, procedures and systems aligned with legislative requirements.

Provide expert advice on compliance, risk mitigation and incident management.

Lead and support workplace health and wellbeing initiatives, including mental health initiatives, EAP programs, and embedding practices that promote psychological safety, resilience, and wellbeing across the organisation.

Administer learning and development modules and incident reporting systems.

Coordinate return-to-work programs and liaise with external providers to support injured employees.

Maintain compliance registers and ensure key roles (e.g. First Aiders, Wardens) are supported and communicated.

Partner with internal stakeholders and contractors to ensure safe work practices and environments.

What you'll need to succeed

Essentials

Demonstrated experience implementing HSE and wellbeing programs and systems to achieve legislative compliance and continuous improvement.

Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Working knowledge of relevant State and Federal legislation and standards (e.g. ISO 45001, ISO 14001).

Qualifications in OHS management or a related field or a relevant experience

Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently within a small team.

Desirables

Tertiary HSE qualifications.

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Experience in complex incident management and stakeholder engagement.

What you'll get in return
This is a high-impact role at the intersection of safety, wellbeing and environmental responsibility. You'll work closely with the Head of People and Culture and senior leaders to shape a proactive safety culture and support the health of our workforce.

If you thrive in a collaborative, hands-on environment where your work is visible and valued, this role offers:

Hybrid model: 3 days in office (Port Melbourne or North Geelong with occasional travel to both sites required)

Warm, informal culture with direct access to leadership

Open to part-time candidates (minimum 4 days/week)

What you need to do now
If you are passionate about safety and wellbeing, have a strategic mindset, and are ready to make a significant impact at Ports Victoria, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and why you are the ideal candidate for this role.
