An exciting opportunity to lead Health and Safety across Barwon Coast and Bellarine Bayside
Barwon Coast Committee of Management is delegated to manage 22km of the coast along Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula. This includes the beaches and foreshores of Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, 13th Beach, and Breamlea. Within this jurisdiction Barwon Coast operate Barwon Heads Caravan Park, Riverview Family Caravan Park, Breamlea Caravan Park and Riverside Campground which provides the revenue stream to conduct its operations. Our purpose is to care for Country respectfully, preserving the coast for people to connect, understand, and protect whilst enjoying the unique natural Environment.
Bellarine Bayside Committee of Management is dedicated to the preservation, maintenance, and enhancement of the cultural heritage, unique coastal character, and environmental treasures of coastal Crown land along the northern Bellarine Peninsula. To fund this, Bellarine Bayside manages six holiday parks and camping reserves located at Portarlington, Indented Head, and St Leonards. Nestled in picturesque beachfront locales, our holiday parks offer diverse accommodation options for visitors exploring the Bellarine.
We are seeking a Workplace Health and Safety Officer who will work across the two organisation, Barwon Coast and Bellarine Bayside.
This position is a full-time role that will be shared between Barwon Coast and Bellarine Bayside. Barwon Coast and Bellarine Bayside places a high value on diversity and inclusivity. We provide flexible workplace agreements and make reasonable workplace adjustments as needed.
The Role: The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer role serves as a collaborative resource between Barwon Coast and Bellarine Bayside, jointly ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and providing advisory support on Occupational Health and Safety matters relevant to both organisations. This collaboration aims to enhance efficiency in implementing safety protocols and fostering a culture of workplace safety across both entities.
The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer is responsible for a range of tasks to ensure that health and safety is imbedded within the organisations, including:
Ensure the WHS manual is up to date and accurate by writing, reviewing or developing a range of workplace health and safety documents including policies and procedures;
Ensure the implementation of WHS health and safety documents in accordance with the WHS Manual;
Maintain a safe work place for all by implementing and enforcing legislation, policies and procedures by stopping any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy;
Lead or assist in the investigation of incidents to determine cause and implement preventative actions as appropriate;
Maintaining the safety software, “Safety Champion”
Coordinate training and competency assessments to ensure all team members safely perform their tasks and are aware of their WHS roles and responsibilities
Work with all staff to promote a safety culture
Co-ordinate emergency management planning including updates to emergency management plans, coordinating emergency planning committee meetings and training.
Return to work coordinator
Lead consultation process for change to policy, procedures and other safety related issues.

Qualifications and Experience
Cert IV in Workplace Health and Safety or similar qualification
Experience in a similar ‘hands on’ Workplace Health and Safety role;
In depth knowledge of WHS legislation and procedures;
Return to work coordinator
Understanding of Safety Champion software desirable.
