SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to protect NSW workers by preventing and reducing work related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation.

About the Team

The Investigations and Enforcement Directorate is responsible for providing frontline advisory, triage and response functions, including leading and or contributing to 1st response activities for critical WHS incidents. The Directorate also leads the investigation of WHS matters, management of the High-Risk Workplace and Repeat Offender Program and manages and coordinates SafeWork's Enforceable Undertakings function. Broadly the Directorate also leads and or contributes to building and maintaining critical partnerships and relationships with other regulators, communicates WHS regulatory outcomes and lessons learnt to industry and the community.

About the Role:

As a State Inspector in Investigations and Enforcement you will be responsible for undertaking SafeWork's incident response and investigations.

  • You will lead and contribute to strategic and operational portfolios of work that are directly aligned to improving policy procedure and operational practice as well as building the capability of Investigations and Enforcement and Safework NSW more broadly to deliver effective and consistent regulatory outcomes.
  • You will maximise business outcomes by developing a high performing culture through coaching and mentoring of team members and enabling behaviours aligned with corporate values
  • Foster and maintain professional working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate desired outcomes and achieve business unit objectives.
  • You will conduct workplace visits and investigations into workplace incidents, injuries and fatalities and where required, provide specialist advice regarding compliance with WHS legislation.
  • You will provide advice regarding safe work practices and how to comply with work health and safety legislation.
  • You will actively contribute to a positive and supportive workplace

To be successful you will have:

  • Strong communication skills to engage and influence key stakeholders to improve regulatory outcomes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well established resilience skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team
  • High level written communication skills and an ability to understand comprehensive and/or technical reports
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner
  • Solid knowledge and use of technology

Essential requirements

  • Advanced Diploma in Government (Workplace Inspection)
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Satisfactory medical assessment capacity in regard to physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
  • Regular travel throughout NSW with the occasional Inter-state travel
  • Employees are expected to hold a valid driver's licence throughout employment
  • Appointment and ongoing assignment may be subject to restrictions and the satisfactory participation in mandatory pre-employment and ongoing probity screening, in accordance with relevant Legislation and/or related policies
