The Role
Naval Construction Branch-WA (NCB-WA) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual for the role of APS 6 Electrical/Electronics Technician, to become a valuable addition to the team. This is a unique opportunity to work on a range of navy vessel projects, at the waterfront in Henderson WA, where the ships are currently being constructed.
The position of APS 6 Technical Officer will work within the Naval Construction Branch-WA (NCB-WA), with a workforce that consists of both APS employees and Military members. You will be responsible as part of a team for assisting with pre and post installation and assurance activities for all Electrical/Electronic equipment, supporting installation activities, and providing assurance throughout the installation and integration process.
The Naval Construction Branch-WA (NCB-WA) delivers assurance services. As an APS 6 you will deliver technical assurance, using your skills and experience to verify the ships are constructed in accordance with approved domestic/international standards. You will be required to engage with contracted staff and will be required to identify concerns as well as risks and issues, drafting briefs to inform management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and attend Electrical/Electronic installation activities/inspections and provide assurance throughout the installation process, including set to work and integration processes.
- Complete assurance, activities and investigations, ensuring the project is in compliance with approved processes including reviews of technical reports, drawings etc.
- Attend meetings and where required provide regular reporting including tests conducted or witnessed (systems, installations, workmanship etc) on ship construction.
- Collaborate with shipbuilders/contractors to meet positive outcomes while conducting shipbuilding assurance inspections and audits.
- Perform other general duties that may be necessary in relevant areas within NCB including participate as a part of the team of technical and engineering professionals in Naval Construction Branch, through building and sustaining positive relationships with team members within Defence, Prime contractors, suppliers, classification society and other regulatory bodies.
About our Team
Naval Construction Branch (NCB-WA) is accountable for the assurance of ship construction, set-to work and transit of vessels constructed at the Henderson precinct. NCB-WA is furthering continuous naval shipbuilding and growing sovereign capability by overseeing the construction to ensure quality and standards are met, storing lessons learnt and developing standard shipbuilding procedures for construction.
NCB-WA currently oversee the construction of many different Navy vessels including Offshore Patrol Vessels, Hunter Class Frigates, Young Endeavour, Evolved Cape Class and Pacific Patrol Boats. Future contracts will see NCB-WA working on the MOGAMI class Frigates and the Landing Crafts (Heavy/Medium). Working at NCB will enable you to be at the grassroots of continuous naval shipbuilding, where you are part of a working shipyard, being able to see and contribute to the vessels delivered and used in service by Navy.

- Electrical/Electronic experience in Technical marine environments.
- Attention to detail and an ability to analyse and identify trends and provide solutions.
- Ability to apply knowledge and experience to identify risks, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, able to manage workloads and resources, to meet expected outcomes.
- Clear and effective communication skills and be comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders.
