The Opportunity: Laboratory Technician

We're looking for a motivated professional ready to take the next step in their soil testing career! This position is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing Newcastle Laboratory team. The successful candidate will work on diverse projects, gain crucial practical experience, and be placed on a clear path toward future leadership opportunities. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager and senior staff, the Laboratory Technician will be responsible for carrying out soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete testing according to national and state standards, covering hands-on testing, data analysis, and detailed report preparation.

What the Role Entails

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Conduct all soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete testing strictly in accordance with Australian Standards.

Perform both hands-on laboratory and field testing, analyze the resulting data, and prepare comprehensive reports.

Support Level 1 earthworks supervision (AS3798) and Level 2 earthworks testing efforts.

Collaborate effectively with the Laboratory Manager and senior team members to ensure high-quality project outcomes.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Your Essential Skills (Must-Haves)

A current Nuclear Gauge Licence and a valid Australian driver's licence.

A solid, practical understanding of Australian Standards for soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete testing.

Proven experience in Level 1 earthworks supervision and Level 2 earthworks testing.

A current White Card (OHS Induction).

Strong attention to detail and excellent skills in accurate record-keeping.

Highly Valued Experience (Nice-to-Haves)

Prior, dedicated experience in a soils laboratory environment.

NATA signatory experience is a significant advantage.

Excellent communication skills coupled with a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
