Exciting Opportunity to Lead a Progressive Dairy Operation in the Bega Valley, NSW Far South Coast.

About Us

We are a well-established family farm, that has expanded from the original 400 acres 50 years ago to a current milking platform of approx.1500 acres, with additional runoff blocks. We, the owners are looking to step back significantly and are seeking a motivated Dairy Production Manager to oversee day to day operations and help shape the future of the business.

Our Herd

We have a fully registered and genomically tested herd of Holstein cows milking on average of 700 cows, twice a day, year-round through a 50-unit rotary.

We synchronise and batch calve three times a year, with all calves reared through a computerised calf shed and grown out on other farms.

Our next major investment is a feed pad, be a part of the implementation of this project.

Location - Bega Valley NSW

Set in one of the most picturesque and sought after lifestyle regions:

Just 30 minutes from the beach, great for swimming, fishing and relaxing.

Surrounded by National Parks and fantastic Mountain Bike Trails.

Close to schools, the primary school is in the adjacent village, with high schools and all the major amenities and resources in the township of Bega 26km away.

The Role

We are seeking a Dairy Production Manager with skills and passion to lead our reliable team. You will need:

To be proactive and organised to get things done, anticipate issues before they arise to ensure the smooth and efficient farm operation - very good time management

Have excellent problem solving, critical thinking skills and focused on solutions

Inspire and motivate our experienced team to achieve excellence in milk quality and animal husbandry

Ensure record keeping, quality assurance and safety systems and protocols are adhered to

Design rosters, allocate tasks for efficiency and maintain a positive workplace culture that supports work life balance for everyone

A sound understanding of business finances and key profit drivers

Running a successful dairy requires the wearing of many hats, from milking technician, veterinarian, agronomist, nutritionist, tradesperson, fencer, accountant and sometimes even marriage councillor, but above all we are looking for someone with common sense and a passion for dairy farming.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum 3-5 years proven farm management history, preferably with experience in dairy operations

Tertiary qualifications in Agriculture or related field are an advantage

A thorough understanding of cow reproduction and competent AI skills are desirable

Technology

Our plant is fitted with modern technology to support efficiency and performance:

CowScout Collars for ID, heat and health detection; auto draft, auto feeding, flood washing, cup removers and GEA milk meters

Safe Ag Systems App to support the management of compliance, safety and maintenance

Deputy App for rosters and timesheets

AgriWebb and GEA Dairyplan for managing cattle data including milk production, breeding and genetics

On Farm Accommodation

Available on farm is a fully renovated 4-bedroom house, including air conditioning, wood fire and dishwasher. A new 3-bay shed/ garage is currently being constructed to store all your essential toys. The home is private and away from the main dairy with the school bus to both high school and primary school.

Remuneration

Strong reward for your skills and passion, negotiable based on skills, experience and achievements.

We haven't had anyone in this role before, so its new territory for us and we don't have a corporate attitude. What we are ready for is to step back, hand over the reins and share the rewards.

This is a rare great opportunity for someone with strong skills, ambitions for growth, whether its towards share-farming or farm ownership, or simply ready to take on the challenge of managing a large productive herd. We are not looking for someone to reinvent our wheel, just a driver to steer the ship forward. Having said that we are open to new ideas and changes that make sense.

To Apply

If this sounds like the opportunity you are seeking, send us your resume including two industry references and letter of application. There is no closing date on this advertisement, we are prepared to wait for the right person.

Please do not forward me an automatic, computer-generated application or resume. We are looking for genuine words from someone with a passion for dairy.

Have a great day, we look forward to hearing from you.
