About the role
The People Culture and Standards Division works in partnership with all Divisions within the Department and beyond to promote and instil good governance and ethical conduct in line with the Department’s mission, principles and values. This Division provides a central and safe environment to report unethical behaviour across the Department and responds to a range of integrity, behavioural, performance, competency and conduct issues.
The Principal Investigator reports to the Assistant Director Professional Standards (PS) and is responsible for managing investigations relating to allegations of misconduct by staff and contractors. The Principal Investigator will progress each allegation in accordance with the direction of, and investigation procedures approved by, the Executive Director People Culture and Standards (PCS) and Assistant Director PS.
The key responsibilities of the Principal Investigator are to receive all referred allegations related to breaches of discipline, to conduct inquiries and gather relevant information that will assist in the review and recommendations to be made to the decision maker to make findings and impose disciplinary actions (penalties) as required, in accordance with the Public Sector Management Act 1994.
PS is accountable for providing a single area of accountability for delivering Assessment, Investigations and Review services in accordance with policies and procedures within the People, Culture and Standards Division. It determines the validity of claims against staff, undertakes investigations, overseeing any resulting disciplinary actions arising from proven allegations for all departmental staff, with a particular focus on the complex, high-profile and contentious environment of Corrective Services.
