About the role

The North Burnett Regional Council (NBRC) is seeking a Civil Works Coordinator to lead the delivery of essential construction, maintenance, and capital works projects across the southern part of our region.

Reporting to the Civil Works Engineer (South), this key role is responsible for overseeing road and infrastructure projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes aligned with Council’s corporate and operational plans and budget.

About you

You are an experienced leader with a background in civil works, civil construction, or civil engineering, and have a proven ability to develop, coordinate, and resource works across civil crews.

You are a strong communicator who can collaborate effectively with stakeholders at both strategic and operational levels.

You hold relevant qualifications in civil engineering or a related discipline (a Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision is desirable), a White Card, and a valid unrestricted driver’s licence, and can demonstrate an absence of relevant criminal history (National Police Check).

Key responsibilities:

Actively develop, maintain and control the construction and maintenance programs and projects to ensure they are delivered to meet quality standards.

Provide instruction and leadership to direct reports, ensuring they fully understand specific tasks, programs and projects to enable effective and compliant execution, and control of expenditure for individual activities and delivery of services.

Actively engage and coach staff to improve individual capacity and achieve strategic goals, operational objectives and promote and drive a culture which strives for continuous improvement.

Provide leadership to the workgroup in successfully implementing relevant aspects of the NBRC Safety Management System.

Ensure that all works executed by assigned staff or contractors are carried out safely, comply with relevant standards and specifications and meets the needs of Council and its customers with minimal inconvenience or disruption.

To assess and respond to all Customer Requests and liaise with all public utilities and contractors as required.

Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders for ongoing and future maintenance of Council assets and effective planning for upgrades and maintenance.

Assume responsibility for the security and condition of all Council fleet and equipment used in the positions area of responsibility.

Ensure that all required planning and reporting activities for civil construction projects and maintenance works are completed within relevant timeframes and keep internal stakeholders up to date with the status of projects.

Monitor expenditure in areas of responsibility to ensure compliance with budget and report any significant variations.

Be available after hours on a rostered basis for attendance at emergencies and other situations requiring after hours attention.

Maintain accountability and appropriate use of information systems and maintain vigilance to comply with record keeping requirements.

Apply sound judgement and decision-making skills to solve construction and maintenance problems both in the planning stages and during the actual construction process.

Assist in the preparation, production and review of the annual budget and operational plan relevant to the work area.

Assist in procurement activities by exercising professional judgement to ensure materials and resources required and supplied to Council meet economic and quality standards.

The Council came into existence on the 15 March, 2008 following the Queensland local government reform process which resulted in the amalgamation of 6 Shires – Monto, Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Perry and Biggenden , into the new North Burnett Regional Council.

The elected Council is the law making body and consists of the Mayor and 6 Councillors. The administration of Council is headed by the Chief Executive Officer.
