SUMMARY
Permanent, full-time opportunity for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a leading global insurance group. Based in Sydney and working in a flexible hybrid environment, this role supports Australia, New Zealand, and wider APAC operations, covering corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.

THE ROLE

You will provide quality, timely, and cost-effective commercial legal advice across areas, including:

Financial services advice (Ch 7 Corporations Act) and distribution laws

General commercial and corporate law

Drafting, negotiating, and advising on insurance distribution and service contracts

Advising on product development, legislative, and regulatory changes

Assisting with regulatory inquiries, investigations, and engagement with regulators

Data protection and privacy law

Other areas may include competition and consumer protection law, commercial disputes and litigation, employment law, intellectual property, branding, and technology

Supporting Company Secretarial functions, ensuring compliance with statutory reporting and governance obligations

ABOUT YOU

You are a senior legal professional with broad commercial law experience. You have a solid understanding of financial services regulation and provide pragmatic advice on complex matters.

Minimum 10 years’ post-qualification experience

Current Australian unrestricted practising certificate

Commercial law and financial services experience

Familiarity with financial services products and insurance products will be beneficial

Strong knowledge of the Corporations Act, particularly Ch 7, and company statutory reporting requirements

Ability to draft and negotiate commercial and distribution agreements, including IT, outsourcing, and third-party contracts

Experience advising on regulatory inquiries, investigations, product development, legislative changes, privacy, competition, and consumer law

Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Competitive remuneration package of $240K to $280K pa inc. super, depending on experience, plus bonus
