Engineering Estimator / Planner

Specialising in Industrial Component Restoration
A1 Metallising Services | Turrella, Sydney | Competitive Salary

Are you looking for a role where your technical analysis skills solve real industrial challenges?

At A1 Metallising Services we have spent over 60 years developing thermal spray restoration techniques that can return worn components to service at a fraction of replacement cost.

As our Engineering Estimator, you'll analyse these complex restoration challenges and develop the technical and commercial solutions that keep Australian industry operational.

You'll get to work on a variety of projects, that will combine our thermal spray coatings, laser cladding (using Australia's first Hot Wire Laser System), welding and precision machining to restore components from earth moving trucks to mining conveyors to wind turbines. In this role you’re not just pricing products, you’re also helping create real solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Analysis & Cost Estimation

Analyse engineering drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to develop accurate repair cost estimates and quotations.

Calculate surface areas and material requirements from technical drawings.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and suggest alternative solutions to improve profitability.

Documentation & Software Utilisation

Complete all required documentation for project work

Use estimating and scheduling software for digital take-offs and cost modelling

Work with CAD systems for drawing interpretation and technical analysis

Develop detailed timelines for repair work

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with sales manager, workshop manager, production manager, and other stakeholders to provide cost-effective solutions

Communicate technical requirements and solutions effectively with teams, clients, and suppliers

Coordinate between engineering specifications and practical workshop capabilities

This is much more accurate - it's focused on estimation, documentation, and collaboration rather than suggesting any actual project management responsibilities.

What You'll Need

Essential Skills:

Engineering / Mechanical trade background or

Fitting / Machinist trade background

Mathematics for complex calculations from drawings and specifications

Be able to read and translate engineering drawings and technical specifications

Analytical and problem-solving mindset
