Fleet Controller — Steel & Wharf Cartage

Location: Laverton North
Hours: Day shift, Monday–Friday, with rotating Saturdays.

GSA Logistics is expanding and we’re looking for a proactive Fleet Controller to coordinate our steel and container operations across all Melbourne and wharf cartage, and break bulk. You’ll work in a fast-moving environment handling all types of steel, General and oversize cargo.

You’ll report to and work closely with the Operations Manager and General Manager.

What you’ll do

Plan & allocate fleet (company drivers & subcontractors) to maximize utilization across steel and container tasks

Book & manage time slots at wharf and container parks; monitor cut-offs, vessel ETAs/ETDs, and receival windows

Pre-plan steel movements including load configuration, permits, escorts and site requirements

Coordinate break-bulk and OOG jobs (open tops, flatracks) including over-height/over-width approvals and precinct move permits

Communicate job details clearly to drivers; confirm site inductions, PPE, load restraint and receiver-specific SOPs

Maintain data accuracy in our TMS (jobs, legs, PODs, statuses) and ensure compliance paperwork is captured

Problem-solve on the fly—re-sequence loads, recover delays, and keep customers updated proactively

Collaborate with warehouse, unpack, and wharf teams to drive on-time performance and safe handling outcomes

What you’ll bring

Experience in transport operations/fleet control (steel or container wharf cartage highly regarded)

Strong planning, prioritization and time management skills

Confident communicator who enjoys coordinating people and moving parts

Solid computer literacy (TMS and MS Excel). Exposure to Freight Tracker, 1-Stop, Containerchain is a plus

Working knowledge of NHVR mass & dimension, load restraint (especially for steel), and depot/terminal processes (nice to have)

High attention to detail, with a calm, solutions mindset under pressure

Team player who contributes to a positive, safety-first culture

Desirable (nice to have)

Steel logistics exposure

Understanding of Trucking operations, skels, side loaders, flattops and others.

Break-bulk/OOG coordination experience (flatracks, open tops)
