Youth Focus has excitedly been named lead agency for headspace Manjimup!

We are looking for an experienced Community Engagement Officer to support the development of key local partnerships and overall establishment of our new Centre's operations located in the Warren-Blackwood region.

  • Part-time, permanent role - 0.8FTE (30 hours per week)

About the Role

Reporting to the Centre Manager, this position is entrusted to lead and deliver community awareness activities and youth initiatives supporting headspace Manjimup's establishment and ongoing operational objectives.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Represent the Centre at relevant external events and internal promotional events, ensuring currency of service knowledge to ensure appropriate and meaningful engagement
  • Facilitate suitable training opportunities to increase local mental health literacy and awareness, including access to the service with a particular focus on priority groups (including but not limited to young men, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and CaLD young people)
  • Develop and meet an annual Community Engagement Plan that aligns with headspace Manjimup's goals and local community needs, including relevant data collection and evaluation requirements
  • Work alongside the Centre's leadership team to cultivate and maintain partnerships and key stakeholder relationships to drive Community Engagement Plan outcomes and integration of services
  • Consult, engage and co-design with young people and families, including the establishment and ongoing facilitation of the Centre's Youth Reference Group and relevant functions

Established in 1994, Youth Focus delivers innovative and accessible mental health services and programs across Western Australia to help young people aged 12 to 25.

A key component of this is our role as the lead agency for five headspace centres, including our new headspace Manjimup Centre, located on Bibbulman Country.

The headspace mission is to collaborate to design and deliver innovative ways of working with young people to strengthen their mental health and wellbeing. This covers four core areas: mental health, physical health, work and study support, and alcohol and other drug services.

About You

To be considered for this position, applicants will have:

  • A passion for working with young people and driving youth participation
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to work and establish rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of various community engagement models and high-level community engagement skills including planning, developing campaigns or briefings, consultation, and partnership development
  • Demonstrated organisational, administrative and project management skills, with capacity to meet deadlines autonomously
  • Ability to deliver training and education within both small and large group settings
  • Knowledge of clinical/counselling services (advantageous) and current health and welfare issues affecting young people and families, ideally within the Manjimup and surrounding communities
  • Tertiary qualification in mental health, health promotion or a related field
  • 'C' Class Driver's Licence and capacity to travel for work essential
  • Capacity to work outside of standard hours as required
