Nyoongar Outreach Services Inc (NOS) is a well-established Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) with over 26 years of shared experiences with Aboriginal people and the community. We are based in Perth and provide services throughout the Perth metropolitan area. We focus on individuals experiencing homelessness with complex needs who may have difficulty engaging with traditional services. Our service model is mobile & proactive outreach. Our teams visit the community, meeting people, offering support, and providing linkages to services.
Our Vision - to create community safety and harmony in public spaces through positive interactions and linkages to our services.
Our Mission is to provide 'street presence' early interventions to close the gaps by connecting Aboriginal people at risk of self-harming, family and inter‐family violence, likely to enter the criminal justice system, rough sleeping, substance affected and mental health to appropriate services and connections to families and communities.
Key duties/ responsibilities
Provide front-line outreach to those at risk or experiencing homelessness
Work closely with the team leaders and colleagues to identify the needs of clients, individuals and families.
Provide early interventions, support, such as advocacy, referrals and follow-up services.
Complete operational reporting
Liaise with stakeholders and the general community to ensure good working relationships.
Support the Nyoongar Outreach Service leadership team to ensure high-quality services and operations are developed and maintained
Other duties within the scope of the employee’s skills.
Frontline Outreach Officers' Ability to:
Comply with Nyoongar Outreach Service’s policies and procedures;
Promote excellence in client support services;
Maintain strong and positive relationships among colleagues and community groups, on a formal and informal basis;
Complete daily written reports and other documentation as required;
Organise appropriate referrals, including to sobering centre, crisis care, homeless and domestic violence services and follow up with clients for long-term solutions;
Role model and maintain a professional approach which reflects policies and procedures and the requirements;
Provide transport to safe places in accordance with appropriate referral procedures.
De-escalate conflicts.
Liaise with relevant stakeholders and partners to ensure interactions.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Experience in community services or a related work area (e.g. youth services, Juvenile Justice, mentoring, mental health);
Knowledge of the First Nations People's culture.
Experience working with First Nations People.
Ability to work shift hours and weekends
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people.
Strong teamwork skills
Hold a current police clearance; and
C Class Driver’s Licence
Ability to obtain a Working with Children Check
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply
At least two years’ relevant experience in the above related fields.
Relevant qualifications in the community / social services area (Certificate or Diploma).
Youth Work Qualification
Remuneration and Benefits –
paid under SCHADS Award
Entry-level (no prior experience) base level 1.3
Hourly rate of $28.12, Saturday rate of $42.18 and Sunday rate of $56.24
2 years or more of recent community service experience or a relevant qualification
Levels 2.1 to 2.3
Hourly rate of $34.58, Saturday rate of $51.87 and Sunday rate of $69.16
Entitlements:
5 weeks Annual Leave
up to $15900 Salary Packaging per annum

Christmas Eve Luncheon and paid day off
Minimum 4 Training Professional Development Courses per year.
The employee must:
be able to work shift hours, including Friday and Saturday night (8 pm to 4 am).
be able to organise own transport to and from work (weekend shifts end after the availability of public transport).
