The Opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced Lab Manager to oversee operations at a world-class engineering laboratory in Sydney’s inner west. This is a key leadership role focused on driving quality, safety, team development, and continuous improvement in a highly technical environment.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the lab while contributing to strategic planning and long-term capability growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily lab operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and high-quality output
• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers
• Oversee financial performance, including budgeting and cost control
• Implement continuous improvement strategies and expand testing capabilities
• Ensure compliance with WHS regulations and internal controls
• Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver seamless project outcomes
• Provide reporting and insights to senior leadership
• Develop and execute staff development and succession planning initiatives

What You’ll Bring

• Degree in Business, Engineering, Science, or related field – or 5+ years of equivalent industry experience
• Proven leadership experience in a technical or engineering environment
• Strong people management, communication, and mentoring skills
• Financial acumen and ability to manage departmental budgets
• Experience with lab operations, workflow planning, and compliance
• Ability to work independently and make strategic operational decisions
• Knowledge of WHS legislation and best practices
