Full-time Farm Hand (Immediate Start）

Main Camp WA (“MCWA”) is a private agricultural company and part of the wider Main Camp Group. The Main Camp Group has been operating in NSW since 2010 and established MCWA in 2019 to build a farming operation in essential oils in Western Australia.

About the role

Today MCWA has an opportunity for an experienced Farm Hand on a full-time basis at our Waslee Downs property (1,300 hectares) in Badgingarra, WA. The full-time Farm Hand will play a key, hands-on role reporting directly to and operating alongside the Farm Manager in optimising production, profitability, and delivery against the annual farming plan.

The property now has over 240 hectares of established and irrigated eucalyptus crop. The eucalyptus crop is harvested annually and MCWA operates an onsite distillery to extract the pure eucalyptus, essential oil. The finished essential oil product is then exported globally. The farm operation is heavily mechanised and operates through full time employees and additional seasonal workers during the busy harvesting and planting periods.

Therefore, the successful candidate will need to:

Be able to demonstrate experience in working in a cropping operation.

Have experience in operating farm equipment.

Be familiar with daily / weekly routine maintenance operations on farm machinery.

Be capable of operating with minimal supervision.

Be comfortable in running a crew of inexperienced, seasonal workers under the overall guidance and supervision of the Farm Manager.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator. Long term progression with the business is a possibility for the right candidate.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this position you will ideally possess the following attributes:

A willingness to learn, adopt new practices and further develop personal skills.

A problem solving, “can do” approach to daily operations.

Familiarity with heavy machinery (tractors, loaders, trucks) and some knowledge and hands on experience of basic maintenance of machinery including utes, pumps, spray rigs and other key farm machinery.

2-3 years (but preferably more) of farm hand experience in all aspects of broad-acre farming, including but not limited to: crop establishment, maintenance, fertilizing and harvesting; weed and pest control will be regarded favourably but not essential for the successful candidate.

Sound health and physical fitness

Formal qualifications will be taken into consideration.

Flexibility in hours worked to achieve operational targets.

Candidates seeking a career change from other industries (eg. forestry, mining) will be considered based on their skill level assessed against the above criteria. Some of Main Camp’s best managers/employees have come from non-farming backgrounds with all having a strong willingness to be accountable for the role they perform.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to undertake the following farmhand duties:

Cropping operations, including planting, spraying, irrigating, and harvesting.

General farm maintenance and repair.

Operation of farm machinery.

Cleaning and basic maintenance of farm equipment.

Working in a team environment.

Benefits:

Basic on-site accommodation can be provided with rental at $250/wk. Waslee Downs is 250km north of Perth. Badgingarra is the nearest town if you would like to seek your own accommodation outside the farm - 11km distance/ 8mins driving.

Onsite utilities (reasonable usage) provided.

You must have the appropriate status to immediately start full-time work in Australia to be successful for the role. We do NOT currently offer sponsorship for this position.

Hourly Rate $35-$40 subject to experience
