Senior Flood Modelling Engineer

As our Senior Flood Modelling Engineer, you'll provide expert technical advice on hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to support flood studies, capital works, risk management planning, and development assessments.
This is a hands-on role where your modelling expertise will directly inform infrastructure decisions, planning outcomes, and community safety.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead flood modelling investigations using tools such as TUFLOW to support flood studies and capital works planning.
• Advise on modelling inputs, methodologies, and interpretation of results to ensure robust and defensible outcomes.
• Review consultant reports for compliance with industry standards and Council's technical requirements.
• Support the development of Floodplain Risk Management Studies and Plans (FRMSPs), including scenario testing and mitigation assessments.
• Produce high-quality maps, figures, and technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist development assessment teams by reviewing flood impact assessments and advising on DA conditions.
• Mentor junior engineers and build internal capability in flood modelling and analysis.
• Engage with the community and stakeholders, translating complex technical findings into clear, accessible insights.
• Collaborate across teams, providing guidance and support to ensure integrated stormwater planning.
• Contribute to broader asset planning initiatives as directed by the Team Leader - Stormwater.

About You

You're a technically skilled and pragmatic engineer who thrives on solving real-world problems. You bring:

• Proven experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling (TUFLOW preferred)
• Strong understanding of floodplain risk management frameworks
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
• Familiarity with NSW flood policy, development controls, and DA processes
