Overview

Our client is a Federal Government agency based in Sydney's CBD.

We have worked with these guys for ages, and everyone says they are a great team.

They are looking to bring on board a Senior PaaS Engineer (Internal Services).

It is a contract role, signed off for 12 months with 2x12 month extensions likely.

Working is hybrid, with usually 2 days a week in the office.

Please note a minimum Baseline security clearance is required (NV1 preferred).

About the team

The team has operational accountability and responsibility for designing, deploying, monitoring and patching the client’s foundational applications. The team is also responsible to work with the various scrum teams to deliver new and updated business applications into production, the majority of new applications being deployed onto Kubernetes. All activities are required to follow modern Infrastructure-as-Code practices, leveraging automated CI/CD pipelines for deployments. The client’s production environment is currently run on client-managed hardware. Only a small amount of Cloud infrastructure is in use however more is planned. The client’s network is classified as Protected, so security risk identification and mitigation are key focus areas for the team.

Job details

Platform as a Service Engineers (PaaS) for project and BAU work; primarily responsible for running application infrastructure and supporting project teams delivering solutions into production. The PaaS Engineer will work closely with the development and product teams to bring their applications through the SDLC (software development lifecycle). They sit with a team of highly skilled platform engineers, within the client’s Technology and Platform Solutions (TPS) division, part of the ITS branch.

Key skills and experience

Essential

Infrastructure as code deployment experience onto Kubernetes (ideally with Kustomize).

Kubernetes platform deployment experience (ideally with Kubespray).

Strong Ansible skills.

Git source control knowledge.

Experience with Linux operating systems (ideally Ubuntu).

Experience deploying and supporting; Apache Spark, Kafka (Strimzi) and Elasticsearch on Kubernetes.

Working with technical and business teams in a hybrid remote environment.

Experience using Atlassian Jira/Confluence to manage work activities.

Desirable

Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).

Experience with any of the following technologies:

Apache Proxy with mod security.

Forgerock OpenAM/IDS/DS/IG.

Gitlab.

Integration of SaaS, Cloud (AWS) and On-premises solutions.
