Join a leading Sydney Local Council and play a vital role in protecting critical digital assets and infrastructure. This long-term contract offers an opportunity for an experienced Cyber Security Specialist to partner with the Chief Digital Officer and senior stakeholders to drive Council’s cyber resilience agenda, you will bring bith technical and governance caabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Guided by Council’s Cyber Security Strategy, create and implement a Council-wide Cyber Security Framework.
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive cyber security program aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability scans, identifying threats and developing mitigation plans.
- Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and upgrades of security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, etc.).
- Lead incident response activities, mitigating breaches and conducting forensic analysis to determine root causes.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with auditors, vendors, customers, and regulators.
- Collaborate with business units to manage risks associated with new technologies, business processes, and products.
- Lead compliance activities ensuring adherence to ACSC Essential 8, Cyber Security NSW ‘Mandatory 25’, PCI-DSS, and other standards.
- Design and roll out cyber security awareness and training programs for staff, contractors, and partners.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning and execution.
- Report regularly to management and the executive on the status of cyber security, risks, and emerging threats.
Skills & Experience
- Degree qualification in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing cyber strategies and implementing security programs.
- Hands-on experience with incident management, forensic analysis, and cyber risk assessments.
- Experience managing security infrastructure and technologies.
- Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
Desirable
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CRISC.
