Our client is a well established Australian firm with a strong reputation for delivering innovative precast concrete structures and products for some of Victoria’s most iconic landmarks, major sports stadiums, and key infrastructure projects.

With a diverse range of precast solutions and a commitment to exceptional service, they are regarded as a trusted partner in specialised production. They are now seeking an experienced Design Manager or Design Coordinator to lead and oversee their design and drafting operations.

Role Objective

• Manage, oversee and measure the performance of the internal drafting team and external service providers.
• Ensure all draftspersons deliver clear, accurate shop drawings in line with the company’s drafting standards.
• Continuously improve systems and processes in line with business needs, market trends and industry standards.
• Provide technical support across the business, including Estimating, Production, Project Operations and Senior Management.
• Implement and maintain a strong QA system to minimise errors and ensure project requirements are met.
• Liaise on administrative and project-related matters.
• Assist in the development of new and existing component types, manufacturing methods and production processes.
• Promote the benefits and applications of precast concrete within the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee detailing of the full range of precast components, including:
• Hollowcore planks
• Reinforced and prestressed beams & columns
• Stairs & landings
• Wall panels
• Stadium seating units
• T-Roff beams, barriers and parapets
• Ensure all shop drawings are clear, accurate and consistent with internal standards and client requirements.
• Review and maintain technical documentation, including the company’s drafting manual.
• Manage RFIs to ensure they are raised, resolved and tracked effectively.
• Assist with conceptual design, liaising between clients, consultants and internal teams to ensure smooth project flow.
• Collaborate with Production and QA to improve detailing techniques and minimise defects.
• Review errors/omissions, implement corrective actions and integrate learnings into drafting standards.
• Provide timely responses to internal and external queries.
• Assist with on-site coordination of installation procedures.

Additional Duties

• Attend internal and external meetings as required.
• Oversee onboarding of new drafting employees and service providers in line with company standards.
• Track project progress against program and budget, reporting on completion.
• Manage and update defect registers, conducting root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.
• Transmit drawings, manage project documentation and be familiar with online project management platforms.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards (AS3850, AS3600, AS3610, AS5100) and codes of practice.
• Understand and support all manufacturing, quality control, transport and OH&S requirements.
• Respond to technical enquiries from architects, engineers, developers and other stakeholders.
• Carry out additional duties as directed by Senior Management.
