People & Culture Generalist
Are you a passionate HR professional who thrives on making a difference? Do you want to use your skills to support an organisation that changes lives every single day?
Our Client is a community Support organisation based in Ashfield. They are a Charity that exists to provide practical care and compassion to people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and disadvantage. Through food services, social programs, health clinics and education, they support thousands of vulnerable individuals across Sydney. Now, they’re looking for a dedicated People & Culture Generalist to help them care for the people who make this work possible – their staff and volunteers.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Business & Culture, this pivotal role is the first point of contact for HR and WHS matters across the organisation. You’ll provide trusted advice to managers and employees, oversee the full employee lifecycle, and ensure compliance with HR, IR, and WHS obligations. You’ll also mentor and guide our Recruitment & Compliance Administrator, making sure processes run smoothly from onboarding to offboarding.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same – one day you may be resolving an employee query, the next you could be drafting contracts, running a WHS induction, or supporting managers through a performance process.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the go-to person for day-to-day HR advice and support.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, contracts, probation, performance management, training, and exit processes.
- Maintain compliance with Fair Work, awards, and organisational policies.
- Support employee relations and workplace issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Lead operational WHS compliance, including systems, inductions, and committee administration.
- Mentor and support the Recruitment & Compliance Administrator.
About You:
You’ll be a confident and approachable HR professional with:
- Proven experience in a generalist HR role (NFP or community services experience highly regarded).
- Strong knowledge of Australian employment law, Fair Work, and award interpretation.
- Practical WHS knowledge and experience in compliance and reporting.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- A collaborative, empathetic approach with a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable people
What Our Client Offers:
- A role with real purpose – your work directly supports staff and volunteers delivering life-changing services.
- A supportive, values-driven culture where people matter.
- Variety in your day – no two days are ever the same.
- Opportunities to develop and grow in a diverse HR role.
Requirements
- Australian work rights
- National Police Check, Working with Children Check, (or willingness to get these before starting)
- COVID-19 vaccination
